What We Did

As one of 60 projects funded through Hull 2017’s Creative Communities Programme, the Electric Fence was commissioned as part of Hull City of Culture 2017.

Designed by the talented artists Annabel McCourt, the Electric Fence was a message of strong response to the hate crime that coincided with LGBT 50, a series of events celebrating 50 years since the start of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.

Annabel came to Pearlgreen Engineering to discuss her ideas around the Electric Fence and we were incredibly excited to be involved in the process of bringing those ideas to life. The project went on to win the St Hugh’s Foundation’s Main Award in 2018.

The installation took place inside the beautiful Hull Minster during the height of the City of Culture season, before setting off on tour visiting various locations including Senegal for the Dak’Art 2018 - Biennale of Contemporary African Art.

We are in talks with Annabel regarding a new exciting project, so watch this space for more information to come!
